The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan says 15 Taleban miliants have been killed in fighting after insurgents attacked a U.S. base in eastern Nuristan province.
A coalition statement says two U.S. soldiers and an Afghan policeman suffered minor injuries in the clash late Tuesday.
In northern Afghanistan, meanwhile, a NATO spokesman says Afghan security forces have regained control of the situation in Faryab province where clashes between rival warlords left at least four people dead.
Officials say the fighting between hundreds of fighters loyal to rival warlords Abdul Rashid Dostum and Abdul Malik started more than a week ago.
In the south of the country Monday, suspected Taleban rebels hanged a 70-year-old woman and her grandson in Helmand province. Local officials say the Taleban accused the two of being government spies.
A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition says there are many reports of Taleban militants targeting local communities in eastern Ghazni province and forcing young men to join them.
