A Cuban newspaper has published photographs it says show a meeting Saturday between Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
The Communist Youth newspaper Juventud Rebelde shows Mr. Castro wearing a red, white and blue track suit and shaking hands with his Venezuelan counterpart.
In one photograph, the Cuban leader is holding a book with an image of deceased revolutionary figure, Ernesto "Che" Guevara on the cover.
Cuban media say Mr. Castro and Mr. Chavez met for more than four hours Saturday and discussed Guevara and Cuba-Venezuela relations, among other topics.
Mr. Chavez traveled to Cuba on Friday. Before leaving Venezuela, he said he would broadcast his weekly radio program later Sunday from the island.
Mr. Chavez is a close ally of Mr. Castro, who has not been seen publicly since intestinal surgery in July of last year, when he handed power to his younger brother, Raul Castro.
Cuba considers details of the 81-year-old leaders health to be a state secret.
