Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton says she opposes President Bush's plan to increase U.S. forces in Iraq, calling instead for more troops to be deployed to Afghanistan.
Clinton appeared on network television and spoke on national radio Wednesday to discuss her recent trip to Iraq and Afghanistan. The senator from New York says she favors redeploying U.S. troops out of Baghdad, and eventually out of Iraq.
She called for an increase in U.S. troops in Afghanistan before a likely spring offensive by the Taleban.
Clinton has not yet announced whether she will run for president in 2008, but opinion polls indicate she would be the Democratic Party's frontrunner.
Democratic leaders in the House and Senate intend to introduce resolutions denouncing the president's plan to send more than 21,000 additional troops to Iraq.
On Monday, President Bush said the Iraqi government's execution of toppled leader Saddam Hussein shows it still has some maturation to do.
Mr. Bush told PBS Newshour there is no question that 2006 was a "lousy" year for Iraq.
