India says it has reopened a road connecting the capitals of Indian and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir that was damaged in last month's devastating earthquake.
An Indian army spokesman said the final stretch of the road, between the town of Uri In India and the Kaman Post crossing point on the heavily militarized line of control, was cleared, Thursday.
The spokesman said the reopening will allow faster delivery of relief supplies to villages flattened by the October 8 earthquake.
The 170-kilometer highway connecting the capitals of Indian and Pakistani Kashmir was first opened in April for a bus service as part of a peace process between the archrivals.
India and Pakistan agreed last week to open five points on the border to allow relief supplies and survivors to cross.
The country's top relief official said Wednesday that the death toll from the October 8 quake had risen to more than 73,000, with more than 69,000 people injured.
