A special tribunal in Nigeria has upheld the April 2007 election of President Umaru Yar'Adua.
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal ruled Tuesday, that challenges from opposition candidates Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had failed to prove election irregularities were substantial enough to invalidate the result.
On Monday, Abubakar said in a statement that if judges declared the election valid, he would accept the results. He called on his supporters to remain calm regardless of the ruling.
President Yar'Adua was given a landslide victory in last April's election, which international observers said was flawed.
His challengers can still appeal their cases to the Supreme Court.
