Pakistani officials say authorities have lifted restrictions on the country's former top judge, who has been confined to his home since being dismissed by President Pervez Musharraf last week.
Officials said a panel of judges ordered the house detention be lifted and that Iftikhar Chaudhry was now free to leave his home and accept visitors.
On Friday, riot police used tear gas and arrested scores of people to break up violent protests against Choudhry's dismissal.
Lawyers and judges across Pakistan have been outraged by the firing on unspecified charges of abuse of power.
Meanwhile officials said Saturday that 14 police officers have been suspended in connection with an attack on a private television station Friday.
President Musharraf apologized to Geo Television in a live telephone interview with the station. He said police involved in the raid had acted on their own.
The raid came one day after Geo Television said government regulators ordered its flagship daily news program, "Today with Kamran Khan" off the air because of its coverage of the growing controversy.
Justice Chaudhry is known for his judicial independence and has ruled several times against the Pakistan government.
