Palestinian militants have released an audio message of an Israeli soldier captured one year ago Monday.
In the recording, posted on a Hamas-linked web site, Corporal Gilad Shalit says his health is deteriorating and that he needs to be hospitalized. He also says he is disappointed by what he calls the Israeli government's lack of interest in his situation.
He calls on Israel to meet the demands of his kidnappers so he can be released.
Earlier Monday, Palestinian militants said Shalit is being treated well.
A spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees, one of the three Hamas-linked groups that kidnapped Shalit, said he will not be released until Israel releases Palestinian prisoners.
The Israeli human rights group B'Tselem said Monday the militants holding Shalit are guilty of war crimes and demanded he be freed immediately.
Negotiations brokered by Egypt to secure Shalit's release have repeatedly broken down and have been complicated by Hamas' seizure of the Gaza Strip.
