Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic ousted the last remaining Frenchman, beating Paul-Henri Mathieu, 7-5, 6-4.
Others reaching the quarterfinals were Tommy Robredo and David Ferrer of Spain, and Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic.
The 14th-seeded Robredo won in straight sets over 18-year-old Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Montenegro, 6-4, 6-3.
