Belgian officials say security has been stepped up after the arrest of 14 suspects who were planning to free a member of al-Qaida from jail.
The suspects were detained early Friday in a police raid. Officials say they planned to break Nizar Trabelsi out of prison using weapons and explosives.
Authorities say they are not aware of any other actions the group had planned.
But they say they are taking precautions during the busy holiday season and have tightened security on the metro, railway stations, airports and shopping districts.
Trabelsi is in jail for planning to attack a military base in Belgium where U.S. soldiers are stationed.
