The moon will turn shades of red Saturday during a total lunar eclipse.
The best views of the eclipse will be in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, but it will also be at least partly visible in Asia and the Americas.
Lunar eclipses occur when the sun, earth and moon are in a near-perfect line in space, a relatively rare event. The eclipse, which lasts several hours from start to finish, will be total at about 2300 UTC.
During this eclipse, light from the sun will still reach the moon after being reflected through Earth's atmosphere, giving the moon a reddish-orange color.
Scientists say unlike a solar eclipse, it is completely safe to look directly at a lunar eclipse.
