Tyson Gay reacts with pain as he runs in men's 200 meter quarterfinals of the US Track and Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field, 05 Jul 2008Double world champion sprinter Tyson Gay of the United States has been injured and did not finish his quarterfinal heat at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon.Gay was leading the men's 200-meters heat, but as he entered the turn, Gay went airborne, fell to the track and was writhing in pain. The sprinter had to be carted off the track and did not qualify for the Olympics in the event.Gay, the men's 100-meters and 200-meters world champion last year in Osaka, Japan, had previously qualified for Beijing in the 100-meters. He ran the fastest time ever, 9.68 seconds in the 100, but it did not count as a world record because the tailwind was too high.The American sprinter's availability for the Games will now be determined by the severity of his injury. Qualifying for the 100-meters in Beijing begins August 15. Gay was considered one of the favorites along with world record holder Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell of Jamaica.
