Our body's pH is important to maintaining our health. An acidic body is where our pH level falls below 7.0 on the 14-point scale, and an alkaline body is where our pH is above 7.0. For sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome the body should be in the alkaline area between 7.35 and 7.45. Research varies on what the pH should be for people who suffer with irritable bowel syndrome, but a minimum of 7.35 is recommended. Human blood pH must be slightly alkaline (7.35 - 7.45) to be healthy and allow the body to function efficiently. Below or above this range means symptoms and disease. If blood pH moves below 6.8 or above 7.8, cells stop functioning and the body dies. The body needs to balance the pH level and problems can occur when this does not happen. To best way to test the body's pH level is to use alkaline pH strip and test your saliva. The foods you eat can give indication if your body is in an acidic state.
