Michelle Deanfield, the heroine in the previous Mystery Stories game is again back for another hidden object adventure in the Mystery Stories: Berlin Nights game. This time around, there are no false curses or natives to contend with, but instead, some real danger concerning a mysterious sect and power-hungry groups trying to stop Michelle on her tracks. The story of game starts after the enormous success of Michelle’s literary work about her trip to the Caribbean and back. Now, she takes her next assignment in Germany, where she’s off to investigate about a 100-year old generator which is considered to be the only technology able to supply the world with endless amounts of power. The real problem though is that the generator was torn apart piece by piece by the Nazis, making it now Michelle’s quest to find the lost parts of this technological marvel, and with the help of her friends, try to bring this promising machine back to life once again.
Just like the previous game, Mystery Stories: Berlin Nights is a hidden object adventure where you take the role of Michelle and try to find items asked from you on each level. Many times, the game will have you play a classic complete-the-list where items are listed on the left side of each scene, and you have to find all the items within the time limit to continue on your journey. But aside from searching for objects, you’re many times asked to complete other tasks too like stamping a postcard or throwing banana peels in the trash, all in all making this game more interactive and fun than your average hidden object adventure.
The game also deviates from its counterparts in terms of gameplay. Objects are either listed, shown in silhouettes, or even represented by sounds to help you find them. There’s also a game type where you are given tasks to fulfill and rely on context clues to know which item to search for. And for more action, how about a quick-search gameplay where you’re only given 30 seconds to find an item within a scene before you are asked to find a different one, ready or not.
